Job Summary:
The Forensic Data Analyst is responsible for analyzing and interpreting complex data sets in the field of forensic science. This role involves conducting in-depth examinations of digital evidence, such as computer systems, mobile devices, and other electronic devices. The Forensic Data Analyst will utilize advanced forensic software and techniques to identify, extract, and analyze relevant data, ensuring accuracy and maintaining chain of custody throughout the process. The findings and conclusions drawn by the Forensic Data Analyst will be crucial in supporting investigations and court proceedings related to criminal cases.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Conduct thorough examinations of digital evidence, adhering to established forensic protocols and procedures.
2. Utilize specialized software and tools to extract, preserve, and analyze data from various digital devices, such as computers, mobile phones, tablets, and external storage media.
3. Employ advanced data recovery techniques to retrieve deleted, hidden, or encrypted files, while maintaining the integrity of the evidence.
4. Develop and execute forensic analysis plans based on the nature of the case and the available digital evidence.
5. Perform comprehensive data analysis, including timeline reconstruction, file system analysis, keyword searches, and data carving, to identify relevant information and patterns.
6. Prepare detailed reports and presentations summarizing the analysis findings, conclusions, and any potential implications for investigations or legal proceedings.
7. Collaborate with law enforcement agencies, legal teams, and other forensic experts to provide expert opinions and support in criminal cases.
8. Stay updated on the latest advancements in digital forensic tools, techniques, and best practices to ensure the highest standards of forensic analysis.
9. Maintain the chain of custody and document all actions taken during the examination and analysis process.
10. Testify as an expert witness in court proceedings when required, providing clear and concise explanations of the analysis methods and results.
Skills and Qualifications:
1. Bachelor's degree in Forensic Science, Computer Science, or a related field. Master's degree preferred.
2. Minimum of 3 years of experience in digital forensics or related field.
3. In-depth knowledge of forensic principles, methodologies, tools, and best practices.
4. Proficiency in using industry-standard forensic software, such as EnCase, Cellebrite, FTK, X-Ways, or similar tools.
5. Strong understanding of file systems, operating systems, and data storage technologies.
6. Familiarity with network protocols, computer networks, and cybersecurity concepts.
7. Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to uncover hidden information and patterns within complex data sets.
8. Attention to detail and a high level of accuracy in data analysis and interpretation.
9. Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present complex technical findings in a clear and concise manner.
10. Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team setting, while managing multiple cases simultaneously.
11. Knowledge of forensic evidence handling procedures and chain of custody protocols.
12. Certification in digital forensics, such as CCE (Certified Computer Examiner), EnCE (EnCase Certified Examiner), or similar, is highly desirable.
